There is more to death than many of us realise

Consider how caterpillars spin a cocoon around themselves before going to ‘sleep’ and somehow transform from one body to another to eventually emerge from their stupor as beautiful butterflies, free to fly off into the sky.

As they transform, they have been shown to be able to take some memories with them.

The ancient Greeks believed that each butterfly was a human soul released from a deceased body. For some First Nations Americans the butterfly is a symbol of rebirth. In China, they symbolise immortality.

This type of rebirth is what many of us hope, believe, will happen when we die.
